Hey lovelies! 💛✨
What a first week of the year, eh? I swear I blinked and an entire week disappeared. I blame that on starting the year recovering from a bout of sickness, but wow, I hope that’s not an indicator what the rest of the year is going to be like! I do enjoy all the planning and setting stuff up for the new year, though. I didn’t think I could get any nerdier until I realise how much joy getting to use my 2020 spreadsheet and new bullet journal was giving me 😂 but i’ve also been social this week! I caught up with friends, saw Frozen II finally, and had two birthdays – my cousin & my brother, this time. my introvert soul is a little frazzled.
A lot of my brainspace has been taken up by the fires too. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably have heard that Australia is currently on fire and has been for weeks. It’s bloody terrifying! but I’m okay. Some family friends have been evacuated, one of my brother’s workmates had their property burnt down and the smoke is playing with my family’s asthma but we’re good. My heart is really aching for the communities and families that are being directly affected, and if yours is too, the amazing #LoveOZYA community put together a bookish way to help out. The hashtag #AuthorsForFireys on Twitter has an fundraising auction going on at the moment. If you want to read about it, you can here. There are some incredible items up for auction, including items from Leigh Bardugo, Sarah J. Maas, Jessica Townsend, and some other big names.

- What did you recently finish reading?
- What do you think you’ll read next?
▷ Currently Reading
I swear I planned on reading no more than two books at a time in 2020….
➸ I’m about twelve chapters into the The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein audio and it’s so spooky and enthrall. Loving it.
➸ Rereading one of my 2019 faves, A Curse so Dark & Lonely, for The YA Circle‘s Brigid Kemmerer event.
➸ I’m about a third of the way into Song of the Current and not sure how I feel about it yet.
➸ Lord of Shadows was destroying me so thoroughly, I literally had to put it down for a bit and walk away. This series will be the death of me. I have no doubt.
- Blanca & Roja // Anne-Marie McLemore (★★★★☆)
- Lucky Caller // Emma Mills (★★★☆☆)
- Circe // Madeline Miller (★★★★☆)
I had such a good reading week! Two new favourites and a solid contemporary. Not too shabby. I can’t believe it took me so long to read from these authors, but thank God I finally did! I’ll be tackling there backlists for sure. If you have strong opinions about what is the best Emma Mills to start with, let me know if the comments pls! I have no idea which ones to prioritise.
➸ After everyone seems to have one-starred or DNFed it, I am soooo bloody nervous to start A Heart so Fierce & Broken but I have to before I lose my nerve. I hope I’m the exception that is going to adore it as much as ACSDAL but I’m not so sure… 😔
➸ The Dragons & Tea Book Club‘s January readalong starts on the 13th. I can’t believe we get to start 2020 reading K. Ancrum together again. It’s going to be magical.
➸ I know I planned on reading my physical tbr this year, but my hold for Over the Top came in and I’m not letting it go back unread. I adore JVN and I’ve had his book on hold for weeks.
