Hey lovelies! 💛✨
I am pairing up with Jana @ That Artsy Reader‘s weekly meme, Top Ten Tuesday. This weekly prompt was Favourite Bookmarks and seeing as I mostly tend to use my three or so faves, receipts & those free ones The Book Depository sends, it wouldn’t have been much of a post,, so I decided today was perfect to talk about some of the books I desperately need to read before the new year.
10 Books I Need to Read Before the End of 2019
.aka all of the sequels I have been putting off until I realised the End of the Year is practically here and there is no more time left to put these off anymore *cue panic*
1. Lord of Shadows // Cassandra Clare
Look, I’m someone who hates finishing series and generally puts off books I know are going to be emotionally devastating. Bookish hangovers are real and incapacitating and I’m scared. Cassie Clare has wounded me before. I don’t trust her with my heart or my precious TDA characters…… but it’s been almost literally a year since I picked up Lady Midnight. It’s time to bite the bullet before I fall any further behind than I already am.
2. Crooked Kingdom // Leigh Bardugo
See above. My inability to process the emotional devastation Leigh Bardugo will inevitably put me through is making me put this off but it’s on my Tome Topple tbr so *fingers crossed* it happens.
3. Feast of Sparks // Sierra Simone
I’ll admit it, I fucking loved A Lesson in Thorns. It is – without a doubt – out of my usual comfortable zone but holy shit,, it was Perfect. I loved it. I can’t stop thinking about it,, and I am so. bloody. nervous for the sequel. It’s gotten many one-star reviews so I know if I don’t read it asap, I’ll put it off indefinitely.
4. The Queen of Nothing // Holly Black
It’s so close to being here and I am not ready for it to be over. As soon as it’s in my hands, I’m going to marathon a reread of The Cruel Prince and The Wicked King, then diving straight into it.
5. Girls of Shadow & Storm // Natasha Ngan
It’s here! I loved Girls of Paper & Fire so bloody much when we read it for book club . Not sure if I need to do a reread first or not, but again, I’m scared my high expectations will make me postpone it if I don’t read it asap.
6. Spellhacker // M.K England
asdfghjkl,, I cannot believe I, of all people, got approved for a Edelweiss review copy. Me!! The Disasters is one of my favourite books of the year and I know I’m going to adore this as much as England’s debut. It comes out Jan 21st (ish) so I’m definitely going to be reading it sometime in late Nov or early Dec… if I can wait that long.
7. Dead Voices // Katherine Arden
A victim of the Great Reading Slump of 2019. My pre-order arrived in time for Spookathon but October was not a great reading time for me so,,, hopefully, I’ll be able to get to it asap?? I’ll probably also reread Small Spaces because I have the memory of a sieve.
8. Tunnel of Bones // Victoria Schwab
Ditto to above. I saved it for Spookathon and was knocked back by the Reading Slump. It just didn’t happen so I’ll probably treat myself to a reread of City of Ghosts as well and read it sometime soon… hopefully, anyway.
9. The Dream Thieves // Maggie Stiefvater
Are you sensing the theme, yet? Another sequel I put off because I was loving it Too Much. Logical, I know, but with Call Down the Hawk releasing this month, I’m itching to catch up.
10. The Weight of the Stars // K. Ancrum
…… and the winner of this series of Rachel Putting Off Books She’s Going to Love is The Weight of the Stars. Ancrum’s The Wicker King is one of my favourite books ever and I want to read this so badly it hurts.
▷ Let’s Talk
